Lord Jim is a novel by Joseph Conrad originally published as a serial in Blackwood's Magazine from October 1899 to November 1900. An early and primary event is the abandonment of a ship in distress by its crew including the young British seaman Jim. He is publicly censured for this action and the novel follows his later attempts at coming to terms with his past. In 1998, the Modern Library ranked Lord Jim #85 on its list of the 100 best English language novels of the 20th century.

Evangeline, A Tale of Acadie, is an epic poem by the American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, published in 1847. The poem follows an Acadian girl named Evangeline and her search for her lost love Gabriel, set during the time of the Expulsion of the Acadians. The idea for the poem came from Longfellow's friend, Nathaniel Hawthorne. Longfellow used dactylic hexameter, imitated from Greek and Latin classics, though the choice was criticized. It was published in 1847 and became Longfellow's most famous work in his lifetime. It remains one of his most popular and enduring works. The poem had a powerful effect in defining both Acadian history and identity in the nineteenth and twentieth century. Někoho takového byste patrně mezi tehdejšími kriminalisty nehledali, takoví bývali spíš na druhé straně zákona, ovšem o to nadšeněji Exnera čtenáři přijímali. Příběhy s kapitánem Exnerem v hlavní roli pravda s postupující normalizací poněkud jalověly, narážek na režim ubývalo a přibývalo soudruhů, Erbenův vyšetřovatel si však stále držel svou šviháckou eleganci, nadhled, ironii a vtip.Michal Exner a jeho dva pobočníci Vlček s Beránkem vstupují do příběhu ve chvíli, kdy na archeologické konferenci dojde k napadení a sebevraždě a na vykopávkách je objevena mrtvola, která rozhodně nepatří do archeologického portfolia. A to znamená, že se nonšalantní hrdina detektivek Václava Erbena opět ocitá ve společnosti nezapomenutelného enfant terrible archeologické komunity dr. Soudka, který mu bude v ledačem nápomocen. I když, pochopitelně, nerad. Dialogy Exnera a Soudka patří přesto k tomu nejlepšímu, co Vražda pro Zlatého muže nabízí.Kniha vyšla v přetěžkém roce 1969, tedy v roce, na jehož konci nad občany ČSSR definitivně spadla klec. Text knihy však vznikal ještě v době plné nadějí a je to na něm znát.Užijme si tedy bonvivánského vyšetřovatele Exnera, kulatého Beránka s černým notesem, hubeného Vlčka s vyhaslou dýmkou a trochu toho vraždění. A kdo že je vrah? To, jako na začátku každé detektivky, ví „jen Bůh a svatý Václav“.

Třeba i vy jste zahlédli dubánka mezi spadanými žaludy pod dubem nebo v lese objevili malinký domeček z kůry, klacíků a mechu. Ne?
